The Third Annual Chanukah Festival of Lights on the steps of the Historic County Courthouse in Downtown Riverside was a major success! Six hundred people participated in the evening’s festivities! Riverside County Board of Supervisors, Bob Bustor, Jeff Stone, Mayor Ron Loveridge, Presiding Judge Richard Fields, Janice Penner, RDP Executive Director and Rabbi Shmuel Fuss shared meaningful messages of Chanukah.
Leon Leyson, the youngest survivor of Schindler’s List, was joined by diverse members of the community in lighting a giant 6 ft. 1,000 lb. ice sculpture Menorah. The “Torch of Freedom,” was passed before it lit the menorah, not only illuminating the event, but sending a universal message of freedom of the human spirit from tyranny and oppression, and the ultimate victory of good over evil, just as a “little light dispels a lot of darkness.”
The Orange County Klezmer’s lively music put everyone in the Chanukah spirit and the dreidel painting, sand art and candle making factory were loads of fun! Not only was a Kosher caterer from LA there to provide delicious food but our very own Judah Maccabee was on hand for photo-ops.
