| Join us for A Taste of History - An inspirational evening with Joanne Caras
In 2005, Joanne visited a soup kitchen in Jerusalem that was serving 500 meals a day to poor and hungry Israelis. That visit changed her life. She was moved, inspired and determined to help raise funds so that the soup kitchen could expand its vital life-saving work.
For two years, she and her family worked tirelessly to collect recipes and stories from Holocaust survivors all over the world. She then compiled them into a book called “Holocaust Survivor Cookbook” containing hundreds of stories and recipes. All contributed by holocaust survivors. All proceeds of the sale of the cookbook go to the Carmei Ha’ir Soup Kitchen in Jerusalem.
Little did Joanne realize how her project would take off. She has since been featured on Fox TV, CBS, NBC, ABC, Israeli National TV and National Radio in the U.S., Canada, and Israel. She has traveled the world speaking and promoting the book, has recently published a Volume II titled “Miracles and Meals,” and is so moved by the world-wide reaction that she has set a goal of selling 6 million cookbooks as a tribute to the memory of the 6 million who perished – all while at the same time helping to feed hungry families in Israel.
